Seniors: FAFSA Opens in October!
Beginning in October each year, seniors can begin completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is an important step in the college financial aid process and is required by colleges to determine eligibility for federal financial aid.

Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) is offering virtual FAFSA assistance for students and families — right from home! Virtual appointments can be scheduled at a time that works best for your family.
During your appointment, GRCC Financial Aid staff can:
- Walk you through the FAFSA application
- Answer FAFSA and financial aid questions
- Provide one-on-one assistance
- Help you understand your next steps

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE COMPLETING YOUR FAFSA:
- Completing the FAFSA typically takes approximately one hour.
- Go to studentaid.gov to create your FSA ID & Password for the 2026-2027 year.
- Important documents you will want to have on hand before meeting with GRCC are: Social Security #'s (student, parents, step parents), Federal Tax Returns from 2024 (student, parents, step parents) and Benefit and asset information from 2024 (student, parents, step-parents). The financial information needed for the 26-27 FAFSA will be looking at the 2024 tax year. Benefit and asset information is also from the 2024 year.
